Pontoon Road accident is subject of suit

A driver and her passenger claim they sustained neck, shoulder and back injuries after a driver rear-ended their vehicle.

Sabrina Long and Harold Johnson Jr. filed a lawsuit Oct. 5 in Madison County Circuit Court against Chun Du Pont.

In their complaint, Long and Johnson allege Long was driving a vehicle west on Pontoon Road near its intersection with Johnson Road in Granite City on Aug. 27 when Du Pont, who was driving in the same direction, struck the back of her vehicle. At the time of the collision, Johnson was riding as a passenger in Long's vehicle, according to the complaint.

In addition to their injuries, Long and Johnson became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled; incurred medical costs; and experienced disability, pain and suffering, the suit states. They also lost wages, the complaint says.

The plaintiffs blame Du Pont for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner as to strike the rear of Long's vehicle, failed to properly apply his brakes, drove too fast and followed Long's vehicle too closely.

In their two-count complaint, Long and Johnson seek a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Thomas C. Rich and Kristina D. Cooksey will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-1017.
