Schnucks, Coke and Pepsi sued over woman's empty pallet injury

A Washington Park woman is taking an East St. Louis grocery store and two soda companies to court after she allegedly tripped over a pallet in an aisle.

Charlotte Pearson filed a lawsuit Aug. 8 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Schnuck Markets Inc., Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. and Pepsico Inc.

According to the petition, Pearson was shopping at the Schnucks grocery store at the corner of 25th and State Street in East St. Louis in April 2010. She says she tripped over an empty soda pallet allegedly left in the aisle. Pearson says the fall caused her to hurt her neck, shoulder and hip.

Pearson accuses all three defendants of negligence and asks for more than $100,000 in damages for pain and suffering, medical bills and court costs.

Attorney Kirk A. Caponi of Belleville is representing Pearson.
