Papa

The wife of an East St. Louis man has filed a lawsuit claiming the her husband died while in the care of his doctors and hospital staff.

Valerie Dawson, on behalf of the estate of George Dawson, filed the complaint July 1 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Dr. Stuart Mauch Jr. and Dr. Thomas Tse.

According to the petition, George Dawson was admitted to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in July 2009 under the care of Drs. Mauch and Tse for complications with Type-II diabetes. Dawson's glucose level was allegedly allowed to drop to life-threatening levels. His wife says that drop caused him to have a heart attack two days later. Dawson died in August 2009.

Dawson's wife accuses Drs. Mauch and Tse and St. Elizabeth's Hospital of negligence and wrongful death. She asks for more than $300,000 in damages for medical expenses and court fees.

Attorney John T. Papa of Granite City is representing Dawson.
