A Union Pacific Railroad Company employee claims he sustained back, neck, arm, rotator cuff, knee and lower extremity injuries after he slipped on ice while attempting to jump from a train.
Keith A. Glaspie filed a lawsuit May 13 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Union Pacific Railroad Company.
In his complaint, Glaspie claims he attempted to dismount a stationary locomotive by grasping the locomotive's hand rails and grab irons on Dec. 27, 2009. However, he encountered ice on the locomotives steps and hand rails, causing him to fall, according to the complaint.
In addition to his injuries, Glaspie suffered bodily pain, lost earnings, experienced an impaired earning capacity and incurred medical costs, the suit states.
Glaspie blames Union Pacific Railroad Company for causing him to fall, saying it negligently failed to provide a safe work place, failed to warn of the unsafe and defective conditions and failed to provide Glaspie with proper equipment to safely perform his job, such as ice picks. In addition, the railroad negligently failed to install step, grab irons and hand rails with traction, the complaint says.
In his two-count complaint, Glaspie seeks a judgment of more than
$100,000, plus costs.
