Former worker claims city of East St. Louis should have fired people with less seniority

Strellis

A woman claims the city of East St. Louis wrongly terminated her from her position when it should have instead fired people who had less seniority than her.

Nicole Hill filed a lawsuit May 12 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against the city.

In her complaint, Hill claims she lost her job with the city on May 15, 2010, after it laid her off due to a reduction in force.

However, Hill claims other employees, who had less seniority than her, should have been let go before her. Because the city failed to lay people off according to seniority, it violated provisions of Ordinance 10-100, according to the complaint.

As a result of her termination, Hill lost income, benefits and entitlement to her retirement, the suit states.

In her complaint, Hill seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Jack A. Strellis of Strellis and Field in Waterloo will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-241.
