RP Lumber sues over unpaid materials

An Edwardsville-based lumber company has filed suit against the man who it claims failed to pay more than $200,000 for materials.

R.P. Lumber Company claims it sold defendant Edwin J. Gire Jr. building materials and supplies from Aug. 13, 2009, through Nov. 20, 2009.

Since then, R.P. Lumber has sent bills to Gire for the total cost of the materials -- $247,544.02 -- but Gire has refused to make payments, according to the complaint filed March 31 in Madison County Circuit Court.

In addition to the initial principal amount due, Gire also owes finance charges of $49,459.68, the suit states.

In its complaint, R.P. Lumber is seeking the money it says it is owed, plus interest, attorney's fees, costs and other relief the court deems just.

John A. Ess and Ronald D. Lowery of Edwardsville will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-298.
