The wife of a deceased Godfrey man claims a fall from a wheelchair led to her husband's death.
Ruth Ann Moran, on behalf of the estate of William Francis Moran, filed a lawsuit March 30 in Madison County Circuit Court against Helping Hands Medical Service Car Inc.
According to the complaint, William Moran was suffering from Alzheimer's disease and needed a wheelchair to get around. In April 2009, Moran says her husband was being given a ride by Helping Hands Medical Service. She claims her husband's wheelchair was secured in the center of the van but says a seat belt was not used to secure him in his chair.
During the trip, Moran alleges, the driver of the van made an abrupt stop and William fell out of his wheelchair. Because of his physical limitations, Moran says her husband was unable to break his fall and was seriously injured. She contends the injuries eventually led to her husband's death.
Moran accuses the St. Clair County car service of negligence and wrongful death. She is asking for an unspecified amount of money in damages plus court costs.
