A mother is suing the Collinsville pharmacy she says accidentally gave her young son prescription blood thinners.
Laura Stabley filed the lawsuit against Walgreen Corp. on March 10 in Madison County Circuit Court. She filed the complaint on behalf of her son, who is a minor.
Stabley says she took her son's prescription for Loratadine to the Walgreens pharmacy on Beltline in September 2010. Loratadine is most commonly used to treat hay fever and other allergies.
Stabley claims the pharmacy mistakenly filled her son's prescription with Warfarin, a generic version of Coumadine – a blood thinner.
Unaware of the mistake, Stabley says she gave her child the medicine, as directed for 18 days. She says her son experienced extensive internal bleeding and external bruising along with extreme pain. He was admitted to a Children's Hospital in October 2010.
Stabley accuses the Walgreen Corporation of negligence and asks to be paid more than $50,000 in damages.
Attorney William L. Wimmer of Belleville is representing Stabley. They request a jury trial.
