A woman has filed suit against Kmart, alleging she fell on rock salt spilled in its aisle.
Bonnie Simcox claims she was visiting Kmart located at 7230 Westfield Plaza in Belleville on Jan. 21 when she slipped on rock salt in the checkout lane.
Because of her fall, Simcox was made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and sustained injuries to her left leg and ankle, according to the complaint filed March 8 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. In addition, she incurred medical costs, the suit states.
Kmart negligently failed to inspect the checkout lane for slipping hazards, failed to warn the plaintiffs of dangerous conditions, failed to inspect the checkout lane and allowed rock salt to remain in the checkout lane, the complaint says.
In her complaint, Simcox is seeking a judgment of no more than $65,000, plus costs.
She will be represented by John H. Hustava of Collinsville.
