Beelman Truck sued over pedestrian fatality in unmarked crosswalk

A truck driver is accused of hitting and killing a Madison County man as he walked across a street.

Marilyn Headley, on behalf of the estate of Robert W. Schaefer, filed a lawsuit March 4 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Kevin J. Cobb and his employer, Beelman Truck Co. Inc.

According to the complaint, Schaefer was walking across the intersection of Lewis & Clark Boulevard and West Chain of Rock Road in Granite City in November 2010. Cobb was allegedly driving his tractor-trailer north on Lewis & Clark Boulevard.

Headley says Cobb hit Schaefer who was allegeldy crossing in an unmarked crosswalk. The man died as a result of his injuries.

Headley accuses Cobb and Beelman of negligence and asks for more than $100,000 in damages plus court fees.

Headley is represented by attorneys Jon E. Rosenstengel of Belleville and Christopher A. Allen and Jeffrey S. Singer of St. Louis.
