Shop 'N Save customer sues after tripping over soda display

A Madison County woman is asking for more tha $50,000 from an Edwardsville grocery store after she allegedly fell over a soda display.

Julie Varble filed a lawsuit Jan. 28 in Madison County Circuit Court against Shop 'N Save Warehouse Foods Inc.

Varble says she was shopping in the Troy Road store in June 2007 when she stepped onto a soda pallet so she could reach a couple of cases of soda. As she stepped off the pallet, Varble claims, she tripped over another case of soda stacked beside the display.

Varble says the case she tripped over was lying on the floor in the aisle and, because she was carrying other cases of soda, she was unable to see it.

Varble accuses Shop 'N Save Warehouse Foods of negligence and seeks at least $50,000 in damages for medical costs and court fees.

Attorney Peter J. Maag of Wood River is representing Varble.
