Joe Man's Bar and Grill sued by woman claiming sexual assault

A woman has filed suit against the bar where she claims she was sexually assaulted and attacked.

Chastity Chapman claims she was a patron at defendant Joe Man's Bar and Grill in East St. Louis when she encountered another patron, who was intoxicated.

"Shortly after 8 p.m. the aforementioned patron, in an intoxicated state, did unlawfully and without provocation, attack, sexually assault and severely injure the Plaintiff," the suit filed Jan. 25 in St. Clair County Circuit Court states.

Because of the incident, Chapman experienced severe injury and pain, sustained permanent disfigurement and lost her enjoyment of life, according to the complaint.

Chapman blames Joe Man's for causing her injuries, saying it negligently failed to provide adequate security, failed to properly train its security staff and lacked sufficient lighting in the parking lot to deter an attack.

In her two-count complaint, Chapman is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Jarrod P. Beasley of The Kuehn Law Firm in Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-40.
