Doctor and Memorial accused of negligence in tubal ligation

A St. Clair County woman is suing her doctor for injuries he allegedly caused during a tubal ligation procedure.

Lisa G. Ruser and her husband, Larry, filed a lawsuit against Dr. Stephen Mueller and Memorial Hospital Jan. 6 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, Lisa Ruser was a patient of Dr. Mueller in January 2009 when he performed a bilateral tubal ligation using a laser technique. During the procedure, performed at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Dr. Mueller allegedly pierced Ruser's bowel and completed the surgery without repairing the damage.

Three days after the hysterectomy Ruser says she underwent emergency surgery to repair the hole in her small intestine.

Ruser accuses Dr. Mueller and Memorial Hospital of negligence. Her husband is suing for loss of consortium. They are asking for at least $200,000 in damages to compensate for medical expenses and lost income.

Attorney Robert G. Jones of Belleville is representing the Rusers.
