Route 161 crash is subject of suit

A Swansea woman is asking a Smithton driver to pay more than $50,000 after the two were involved in a car crash.

Louise A. Lipe filed the negligence claim against Catherine B. Klemme Dec. 29 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

The alleged crash happened in June 2009 at the intersection of Route 161 and North Belt West. Lipe says she was driving through a green light on Route 161 and was hit broad-side by Klemme's vehicle. Lipe claims Klemme had proceeded through a red light and was attempting to turn left from North Belt West onto the highway.

Lipe contends the crash was a direct result of Klemme's negligence in ignoring a traffic signal. She says she received severe injuries in the collision.

Lipe is asking for more than $50,000 in damages for lost wages, lost enjoyment of life, pain and suffering and disability.

Attorney Jarrod P. Beasley of the Kuehn Law Firm in Belleville is representing Lipe.

St. Clair County Circuit Court Case No. 10-L-0675.
