Injured woman claims State Farm failed to pay medical costs

A Madison County woman has filed suit against an insurance company, alleging it refused to reimburse her for more than $15,000 worth of medical costs she incurred during a collision.

Glenda Marshall claims she was riding in a vehicle defendant State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company had insured when an accident occurred on July 31, 2009.

Because of the accident, Marshall incurred severe injuries, leading to medical costs of more than $15,000, according to the complaint filed Jan. 13 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Although Marshall filed a claim with State Farm for the medical costs she incurred, the insurance company has refused to reimburse her, the suit states.

"Defendant's attitude towards plaintiff insured and this claim has been cavalier and biased," the complaint says.

In her two-count complaint, Marshall is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000 and a statutory penalty of $60,000, plus attorney's fees, interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Rodney D. Caffey of LakinChapman in Wood River will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-44.
