Lung cancer not properly diagnosed, suit claims

The family of a deceased St. Clair woman is suing her doctor after he allegedly failed to properly diagnose cancer in her lungs.

Lois Turnage, on behalf of the estate of Annie Turnage, filed the lawsuit against Dr. David Martin and Advanced Radiology Associates P.C. on Dec. 10 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, Annie Turnage was a patient of Dr. Martin in July 2002. The family alleges Dr. Martin took a chest x-ray of Turnage but failed to recognize and diagnose cancerous cells in her lungs. Less than two years later, Turnage died of the disease.

The family is suing Dr. Martin for the wrongful death of Annie Turnage. His practice, Advanced Radiology Associates, is also named as a defendant.

Louis Turnage is asking for more than $100,000 in damages and court costs. Jospeh A. Bartholomew of Belleville is representing her.
