A St. Clair County woman is suing the owners of a Belleville restaurant after she allegedly fell off a sidewalk and broke her hip.

Pauline M. Mestel filed the lawsuit against Geo's Wings and More and its owners, Karen and George Smith in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Mestel says she visited Geo's Wings and More on West Main Street in October 2009. She claims that poor lighting in the parking lot and the absence of warning signs caused her to fail to notice the a substantial drop-off along the sidewalk that led to the restaurant.

Mestel says she fell down the drop-off, breaking her right hip and injuring her leg.

Mestel accuses Geo's and the Smiths of negligence for failing to maintain a safe entrance into their restaurant. She is asks for more than $250,000 for medical expenses, lost wages and attorney fees.

Attorney Gary A. Mack of Belleville is representing Mestel.
