Wood River crash caused by intoxicated, speeding driver, suit says

A Madison County man is suing the Indiana woman he says was speeding and under the influence of alcohol when she turned in front of him, causing a crash in Wood River.

David Sanders filed the lawsuit against Michelle Griffin Nov. 17 in Madison County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, the crash happened in January near the intersection of East Edwardsville Road and Lakin Street.

Sanders says he was driving west on East Edwardsville when Griffin, who was driving in the opposite direction, attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Lakin. Edwards says Griffin turned immediately in front of him, causing him to hit her vehicle.

Griffin was allegedly speeding and under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Sanders says he hurt his neck, back and head. He is asking for damages between $50,000 and $75,000 to cover medical expenses, pain, mental anguish and lost wages.

Attorney J. Robert Edmonds of Alton is representing Sanders.

Madison County Circuit Court case no. 10-L-1161.
