Madison County Circuit Judge Daniel Stack has given a Granite City credit union more time to bolster its defenses in a suit between a husband and wife over a retirement savings account.
Granite City Steel Federal Credit Union and Ameren Services Company are both named in a suit brought by Thomas Dodd against the two financial companies and his wife of more than two decades, Carol Dodd.
Thomas Dodd claims that Carol Dodd left him in a bathtub for days without food and water after a fall.
The plaintiff then claims that Carol Dodd emptied a retirement account he had, taking more than $190,000.
The complaint claims that Carol Dodd subsequently forged her husband's signature to open two accounts for the money in her and her sister's names.
The suit claims Ameren and the credit union should not have allowed Carol Dodd to withdraw the funds or open the accounts with the forged documents.
The defendants deny the claims.
Ameren and the credit union have third party claims pending against Carol Dodd.
The Dodds are in the process of divorcing.
The parties were ordered to mediation by Stack in August.
At a hearing Sept. 24, Stack allowed the credit union more time to file additional supporting materials for its affirmative defendants.
He also clarified an earlier order related to Ameren's defenses.
Thomas Burkart represents Thomas Dodd.
Alexander Wilson represents Carol Dodd.
Gordon Broom and Gary Meddows represent Ameren.
James Craney represents the credit union.
The case was previously handled by Madison County Circuit Judge
Barbara Crowder and Madison County Chief Judge Ann Callis.
Madison County Associate Judge Steve Stobbs oversees the Dodd
divorce.
The case is Madison case number 08-L-606.
