Shop 'n Save sued over customer's slip on puddle

A woman has filed suit against the grocery store where she claims she slipped on a puddle of water and fell.

Alice J. Jones claims she was shopping at defendant SuperValu doing business as Shop 'n Save on May 10, 2009, when she encountered an accumulation of water that caused her to slip and fall.

Because of her fall, Jones suffered injuries to her head, body, limbs, back and knees and became sick, sore, lame and disordered, according to the complaint filed Aug. 10 in Madison County Circuit Court. In addition, she suffered great physical pain and mental anguish, was prevented from attending to her usual duties and affairs, was deprived of wages and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

She says Shop 'n Save failed to keep its premises in a safe condition.

In her complaint, Jones is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

She will be represented by Robert H. Gregory of the Law Office of Robert H. Gregory in East Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-836.
