Route 111 accident is subject of suit

A Madison County couple have filed suit against the driver who they claim failed to yield to their vehicle at a stop sign.

Winfred and Debra Dale claim Debra Dale was driving north on Illinois Route 111 near its intersection with West Second St. in Roxana when defendant Brooke Grigg, who was driving west on East Second Street, stopped at the intersection, then turned left in front of Debra Dale's vehicle. According to the complaint filed July 9 in Madison County Circuit Court, Winfred was riding in the vehicle as a passenger in the vehicle at the time the collision occurred.

Because of the accident, Winfred Dale suffered great pain of his mind and body, sustained injuries to his neck and back, endured mental anguish, incurred medical bills and has been unable to attend to his usual duties, the suit states.

In addition, Debra Dale lost her husband's support, society and consortium, the complaint says.

The Dales blame Grigg for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to yield the right-of-way after stopping at a stop sign, turned left in front of the Dales' vehicle, failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision and failed to keep a proper lookout.

In their two-count complaint, the Dales are seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

They will be represented by J. Robert Edmonds of Mormino, Velloff, Edmonds and Snider.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-724.
