Granite City woman claims injuries in accident

A Granite City woman has filed suit against the driver who she says caused a collision and forced her to obtain medical treatment.

Candace Howie claims defendant Sunni Shemwell was driving a 1996 Saturn SL near Palmer and Nameoki Street in Granite City on June 24, 2008, when she collided with Howie's vehicle.

In addition to the medical treatment she was forced to obtain, Howie could not pursue her wages and incurred medical costs because of the collision, according to her complaint filed June 4 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Shemwell negligently failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to yield to oncoming traffic, the suit states.

In her complaint, Howie is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000.

She will be represented by Alexander M. Wilson of Wilson Law Offices in Granite City.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-592.
