Damages hearing moved in Rick Jones' suit against homebuyer
A June 7 hearing on damages owed to a former real estate king pin by a woman who allegedly failed to go through with a home-purchasing contract has been moved to July.
Plaintiff Rick Jones filed a motion June 1 asking Madison County Associate Judge Thomas Chapman to move the June 7 hearing due to an emergency that took Jones' primary witness out of town May 30.
Chapman granted that motion, moving the hearing on damages in Jones' suit against Melissa Tucker to July 29 at 10 a.m.
Jones won a default judgment in the case from then presiding judge Madison County Chief Judge Ann Callis.
Callis assigned to the case to Chapman May 19.
Jones, who is currently serving time on federal tax evasion charges, sued Tucker for allegedly failing to go through with the purchase of a home in one of his developments.
The breach of contract suit seeks damages in excess of $50,000 and costs.
Jones sued the city of Wood River at the same time he sued Tucker on allegations of breach of contract related to land used for a water tower.
The case remains pending before Madison County Circuit Judge David Hylla.
