Rick Jones moves for default judgment in case against home purchaser

Former real estate mogul Rick Jones has asked for default judgment in a suit he filed against the purchaser of a home in one of his subdivisions.

On April 28, Madison County Chief Judge Ann Callis found for Jones on the issue of liability. She set a hearing on damages in the case for June 7 at 9 a.m.

Jones then filed his motion for default judgment May 3.

Jones is suing Melissa Tucker for allegedly failing to uphold her end of a real estate sale. He claims that he and Tucker entered into a contract for the sale of real estate at 1 Jones Way in Wood River.

Tucker then allegedly failed to go through with the purchase as required by the contract.

The default judgment move will also be heard June 7.

Jones pled guilty to federal tax evasion charges last year. He is currently serving a 15 month prison sentence.

His suit against Tucker seeks damages of at least $50,000 and costs.
Jones is represented by Harry Sterling.

The case had been assigned to Madison County Circuit Judge Daniel Stack.

The case was one of over 100 that were transferred from Stack by Callis' orders in December 2009.

Stack plans to retire later this year.

The case is Madison case number 09-L-891.
