Greenmount Road accident is subject of suit

A St. Clair County woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims failed to obey a traffic control device and struck her.

Cheryl Jackson claims she was driving south on Greenmount Road in Belleville on March 14, 2008, when defendant Katherine Watson, who was driving north on Greenmount Road and turning onto Route 161 west, disobeyed a traffic control device and struck Jackson as she entered the intersection.

Because of the collision, Jackson sustained severe and permanently disabling injuries to her head, neck, back, heel, foot, ankle and entire body; sustained great pain and mental anguish; lost wages; and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed March 1 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Watson negligently drove too fast, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep the vehicle she was operating under proper control, failed to keep the vehicle she was operating in the proper lane, failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision and failed to obey a traffic device, the suit states.

Jackson is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by Thomas E. Fagan and Susan M. Schwartzkopf of Wuestling and James in St. Louis.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-95.
