Construction company claims couple owes more than $1 millon for home

A construction company is seeking more than $1 million from a St. Clair County couple after it says they refused to fully pay for construction work completed.

Avalon Construction says it entered into a contract on March 31 with defendants Cedric and Keisha Taylor to build a new home.

According to the complaint filed Feb. 1 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, the Taylors have already paid Avalon $570,000.

However, subcontractors have billed the Taylors an additional $601,103.74 and an extra $555,914.98, which Avalon says the couple owes, but has not paid.

"Plaintiff has made demand upon defendants for full payment of the amounts due in owing under the contract and defendants have repeatedly agreed to make the payments but have not done so," the suit states. "Plaintiff has repeated submitted bills to defendants with supporting documentation and defendants have not disputed the accuracy of the bills or that they owe the amount due."

In addition to the money it says it is owed, Avalon seeks five percent interest and costs.

James E. DeFranco of DeFranco and Bradley in Swansea will be representing it.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-42.
