Highway pedestrian claims he got hit by a truck

A pedestrian has filed suit against the trucking company who he says owned a tractor-trailer that hit him as he was walking along the side of the road.

Raymond K. Jones claims he was walking adjacent to the eastbound lanes of Missouri Highway 221 near its intersection with U.S. Highway 67 in Farmington, Mo., on Jan. 17, 2008, when a tractor trailer owned by defendant Beelman Truck Co. and driven by Steven Reinhardt struck him.

Because of the accident, Jones suffered serious and permanent injuries to his head and body, which will continue into the future; and sustained great disability and disfigurement, the suit filed Jan. 12 in St. Clair County Circuit Court states. In addition, he experienced pain and suffering, incurred medical costs, lost earnings and lost his enjoyment of life, the complaint says.

Jones blames Reinhardt, an employee of defendant Beelman Truck Co., for causing the accident, saying Reinhardt failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast for the road, failed to brake or swerve to avoid a collision and failed to drive within his proper lane.

In the two-count suit, Jones seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

David A. Nester of Nester and Constance in Belleville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-13.
