J.F. Electric sues over unpaid bill

An Edwardsville company has filed suit against another corporation that it claims has failed to reimburse it for construction work it performed.

J.F. Electric Inc. claims it entered into a contract with defendant Pangea on April 1 in which it agreed to provide all electrical construction design and construction work for the URS Zone Shop located at WRB Wood River Refinery 900 South Central in Roxana.

In return, Pangea agreed to pay J.F. Electric $170,767 for its performance, according to the complaint filed Jan. 14 in Madison County Circuit Court.

During the course of its work, J.F. Electric's subcontract work changed, thus resulting in an increased price of $178,744.79, the suit states.

Although J.F. Electric performed all services under the contract, Pangea has failed to pay it the money it says it is owed, the complaint says.

Under the contract, if the two parties do not agree on an issue, they were supposed to mediate their differences. So, J.F. Electric claims it requested mediation on Dec. 9, but Pangea advised that it waived any rights to mediate the dispute.

In addition to the $178,744.79 it says it is owed, J.F. Electric is seeking interest, attorneys' fees, costs and other relief the court deems just.

It will be represented by Brian R. Kalb and Michah S. Summers of Byron, Gerber, Petri and Kalb in Edwardsville.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-34.
