Mandating global disadvantage

To the editor:

After reading Collinsville resident's Ron Jedda's letter to the editor ("Take Note, elected officials", November 22nd), my concern grew even larger regarding the economic impact "Climate Change" legislation will have on Illinois.

According to Government Accountability Office (GAO), the independent audit body of the federal government, cap and trade legislation would put the United States at a severe disadvantage towards China, India, Brazil and other modernizing countries not subjected to similar carbon emission regulation. The net result would be more domestic energy companies and jobs relocated overseas and the United States becoming even more dependent on foreign sources of energy.

America is in the midst of economic uncertainty, with manufacturers facing shuttered plants and the unemployment rate in double-digits. Now is not the time to knowingly create a disadvantage for our economic competitiveness.
