Two sue over injuries on I-255 exit ramp

Two people have filed suit against the driver who they claim rear-ended them while they were sitting at a red traffic light.

Amber Sanders claims she was driving a 1994 Buick Lesabre Custom that she had stopped for a red light on the north exit ramp of Illinois Interstate 255 in Roxana on March 1 at about 5:03 p.m. Riding as her passenger was co-plaintiff Anthony Harvey.

According to the complaint filed Nov. 5 in Madison County Circuit Court, defendant Chrisoula Siampos was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima directly behind them when she rear-ended the Buick.

Because of the accident, Sanders and Harvey became sick, sore, lame and disordered, suffered great pain and anguish and suffered injuries to their necks and backs, the suit states. In addition, they were required to seek a physician's care, were required to take various medications, suffered internal derangement of the injured members of their bodies, were prevented from earning money and incurred large costs, the complaint says.

Sanders claims she also injured her arms and suffers from headaches due to the accident.

They blame Siampos for failing to keep her vehicle under control, for failing to observe the Buick, for driving too closely to their vehicle, for failing to reduce her speed to avoid a collision and for failing to drive at a reasonable speed.

In the two-count suit, Sanders and Harvey are seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Richard G. Reed of Reed and Bruhn in Belleville will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-1181.
