A man is blaming a Godfrey bar and its owners for multiple injuries he claims to have sustained after two unidentified bar patrons attacked him.

Paul McKee filed a lawsuit Oct. 5 in Madison County Circuit Court against Manzy's Corner Pub, Dennis Manns, Scott Manns, Douglas Manns and Jack Wooden.

McKee claims he was a patron at Manzy's Corner Pub, which is located at 110 West Homer Adams Parkway, on Oct. 5, 2008, when the attack occurred after two other customers were served alcohol.

"That at the time and place aforesaid, at approximately 3:00 in the morning of October 5, 2008, John Doe I and John Doe II while so intoxicated, the alleged intoxicated persons attacked, assaulted and battered the Plaintiff, Paul McKee, while under the influence of alcohol," the suit states.

Because of the assault, McKee suffered a concussion, a severe left knee injury, a fractured nose and bruises and lacerations to his face, according to the complaint. In addition, he sustained severe and permanent injuries, experienced pain and suffering and lost earnings, the complaint says.

Before the assault, McKee claims Manzy's Corner Pub had been the scene of other illegal activities for which police had been called about 25 times.

"Defendant clearly had knowledge of its past events which put the Defendant on notice that it was reasonably likely that a patron could get injured by a third party," the suit states.

In his complaint, McKee blames the pub, its operators – Dennis Manns, Scott Manns and Douglas Manns -- and the owner of the property – Jack Wooden -- for failing to prevent dangerous people from being on their premises, for failing to supervise their patrons, for failing to provide adequate security, for failing to prevent the assault on McKee and for failing to take adequate precautions to prevent a fight from occurring.

In the 10-count suit, McKee is seeking a judgment of more than $500,000, plus additional costs the court deems just.
