Troy Scott Road collision caused injuries, suit claims

A man has filed suit against a minor driver's father after he says the driver struck him while attempting to make a left turn across his lane.

David L. Selliers claims he was driving south on Scott Troy Road at its intersection with Old Vincennes Trail in O'Fallon on May 21 at about 7:40 a.m. when Dejha D. Brown, who was driving north on the same road, attempted to turn left at the intersection. Instead, she struck Selliers, according to the complaint filed Oct. 6 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Selliers was made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled; suffered extensive injuries to his head, shoulder, neck and back; and received a concussion, the suit states. In addition, Selliers incurred medical costs, suffered disability, experienced pain and suffering, lost wages and suffered an impaired earning capacity, the complaint says.

Selliers blames Brown for failing to keep a proper lookout, for failing to apply her brakes, for driving too fast, for failing to give him at least one-half of the road, for failing to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and for driving without adequate brakes.

Selliers is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

John H. Hustava of Collinsville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-534.
