Accident victims seek $200k for injuries

Two women aim to gain more than $200,000 after they say they were injured in a multi-vehicle collision.

Evelyn Jones and Lavonya Jones-Moore filed a lawsuit Sept. 3 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Brent L. King and Susan Lutton Veach.

Jones claims she was driving north on Illinois Route 163 near its intersection with Camp Jackson Road in Centreville on Aug. 12. At the time of the collision, Jones-Moore was riding as a passenger in Jones's vehicle, according to the complaint.

Suddenly, King struck the rear of Veach's vehicle, forcing her to rear-end Jones's vehicle, the suit states.

Because of the accident, Jones and Jones-Moore were made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled, incurred medical costs, suffered disability, experienced pain and suffering and lost wages, the complaint says.

In addition, Jones claims she received injuries to her neck, knee and back, while Jones-Moore says she injured her neck, legs and back.

Jones and Jones-Moore blame King for failing to keep a proper lookout, for striking the rear of Veach's vehicle, for failing to properly apply his brakes, for driving too fast and for failing to yield the right-of-way.

They say Veach negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner that she struck the rear end of Jones's vehicle, failed to properly apply her brakes, drove too fast and failed to yield the right-of-way.

In the four-count suit, they are seeking a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs.

Thomas C. Rich and Jennifer L. Barbieri of Fairview Heights will be representing them.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-469.
