A St. Clair County woman has filed suit against the driver who she says failed to stop for a red light.

Bonnie Sanders claims she proceeded through a green light at the intersection of Stolle Road and Route 3 on Nov. 27, 2007, at about 3:12 p.m. when she was struck by Vitilas Reid, who had failed to stop for a red light at the intersection.

Because of the accident, Sanders sustained injuries to her head, neck, left shoulder, left upper extremity, chest and knee and experienced great physical pain and mental anguish, according to the complaint filed Aug. 26 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. She also lost large sums of money because of her inability to pursue her normal occupation, suffered disability and disfigurement and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Reid negligently failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision, drove at an unreasonable speed, failed to exercise due care, failed to stop for a red light and drove when he should have known his physical condition impaired his ability to operate a vehicle, the complaint says.

Sanders is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and pre-judgment interest.
