A Belleville woman claims she broke her left ankle while roller skating after the wheel of her skate broke off.
Amonie K. Parker filed a lawsuit Aug. 24 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Rolo Skate U.S.A., doing business as Fun Spot Skating Center.
Parker claims she attended an adult skate night event at the Fun Spot Skating Center on Sept. 28.
While Parker was skating at the rink, the screw holding the left, front wheel of the roller skate she rented came off, causing the front wheel to break off the skate, the complaint says.
"After the wheel came off of skate, plaintiff's left foot rolled under causing her to turn her left ankle causing plaintiff to fall to the floor," the suit states. "Plaintiff immediately heard her left ankle snap and felt a sharp pain causing her to be unable to stand or walk."
After an employee removed the skate from Parker's foot, she went into shock and was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Belleville, according to the complaint.
Once at the hospital, Parker claims she was diagnosed with a broken left ankle and torn ligaments. She was forced to have surgery on her left ankle and underwent an open reduction and internal fixation to her ankle, which required the insertion of eight metal screws, according to the complaint.
Parker blames Fun Spot Skating Center for failing to adequately maintain and repair roller skates it rented to her.
Parker is seeking a judgment of more than $104,000 to compensate her for her injuries, plus other relief the court deems just.
