A woman has filed suit against the driver who she says rear-ended her after failing to stop behind her at a red light.
Leslie Levy O'Connor filed a lawsuit Aug. 26 in Madison County Circuit Court against Marjorie May.
O'Connor claims she was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer south on Highway 162 in Maryville when she stopped at a red light.
According to the complaint, May, who was driving a 2006 Buick Century directly behind O'Connor, failed to stop and struck the rear of O'Connor's Chevy.
Because of the accident, O'Connor sustained severe, permanent and disabling injuries, suffered great physical pain and incurred medical costs, the suit states. She also lost large sums of money because of her inability to pursue her normal occupation, the complaint says.
O'Connor blames May for failing to decrease her speed to avoid a collision, for failing to keep a proper lookout, for driving too fast, for failing to stop or swerve to avoid a collision and for driving in such a way that she struck the rear of May's vehicle.
O'Connor is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
Matthew R. Chapman of Becker, Schroader and Chapman in Granite City will be representing her.
