17 new asbestos claims filed in Madison County July 20-24

A total of 17 new asbestos lawsuits were filed in Madison County during the week of July 20 through July 24.

The following claims were filed:

--Patrick Arthur of Florida claims his recently deceased father, Armand Arthur, developed mesothelioma after his work as a laborer and cabinet maker from 1955 until 1995. Patrick Arthur is represented by Brian J. Cooke of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-771.

--Jerome Brockmeyer, a chemical operator at National Lead from 1955 until 1980 and at Combustion Engineering from 1981 until 1997, claims mesothelioma. Brockmeyer is represented by James F. Kelly and Jeffrey A.J. Millar of Brent Coon and Associates in St. Louis. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-764.

--Veronica Campbell of Texas claims a recently deceased man, James R. Campbell, developed mesothelioma after his work as a laborer, high school teacher, high school vocational work study program coordinator, high school principal and associate principal and academy superintendent at various locations from 1953 until 1979. Veronica Campbell is represented by Robert Phillips, Perry J. Browder and Rosalind M. Robertson of SimmonsCooper in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-742.

--Steven H. Coody, an owner and mechanic at Steve Coody Trucking from 1972 until 1981; a farmer and mechanic at Coody Farm from 1963 until 2009; and a construction worker and shadetree mechanic from 1966 until 2009, claims mesothelioma. --Mark Custance of California claims a recently decease man, Howard Custance, developed mesothelioma after his work as a laborer. Mark Custance is represented by Richard L. Saville Jr. and Ethan A. Flint of Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-756.

--Edwardo J. Dorato and Barbara Dorato of Nevada allege Edwardo J. Dorato developed mesothelioma after his work as an infantryman and maintenance man in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1956; as a produce packer at Arrow Packing Co. from 1957 until 1967; as a surveyor's assistant at Jefferson Construction from 1967 until 1968; as a position cook at Ice Cream Parlor from 1968 until 1969; as a grill man at George's Restaurant from 1969 until 1980; as a prep cook from 1980 until 1982; and as a grill man from 1982 until 1993 at Dottie's Kitchen. --Patricia Fillmore of Missouri alleges the recently deceased David Fillmore developed mesothelioma after his work as a laborer. Patricia Fillmore is represented by Richard L. Saville Jr. and Ethan A. Flint of Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-755.

--Stanley E. Fisher of Indiana, a bricklayer, switchman, laborer and forklift operator from 1951 until 1979, claims colon cancer. Fisher is represented by Robert Phillips, Perry J. Browder and Rosalind M. Robertson of SimmonsCooper in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-745.

--Robert Flippin, a heavy construction worker from 1963 until 1966; a large pipe insulation material installer and retriever from 1966 until 1969; a heavy construction worker from 1969 until 1971; and a production and fabrication line worker from 1972 until 1976, claims mesothelioma. --Gordon Hatcher Jr. of Alabama claims his recently deceased father, Gordon Hatcher Sr. developed mesothelioma after his work as an electrician and laborer. Gordon Hatcher Jr. is represented by Richard L. Saville Jr. and Ethan A. Flint of Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-754.

--Florence Hudson of Missouri, a furnace repairman and truck driver at various locations in Illinois and Missouri from 1958 until 1998, claims lung cancer. Hudson is represented by Andrew O'Brien, Christopher Thoron, Christina J. Nielson, Bartholomew J. Baumstark and Gerald J. Fitzgerald of O'Brien Law Firm in St. Louis. --Wanda Kidd of Oklahoma claims her recently deceased husband, Kenneth M. Kidd, developed mesothelioma after his work as a steamfitter, welder, pipefitter, plumber, engineer and shopfitter at various locations throughout Illinois and Missouri during the 1940s. Kidd is represented by Myles L. Epperson of SimmonsCooper in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-748.

--Sophia and James Kirn of Illinois allege Sophia Kirn developed mesoyhelioma after her work as a laborer at American Can Company in 1948 and as an operator at Illinois Bell Telephone from 1956 until 1991. Sophia Kirn was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through her husband, who worked from 1943 until 1954 as a laborer at American Can Company, from 1954 until 1971 as a laborer at Edwards Pole and Wire, as a laborer at Man Power in 1972, as a laborer at Waukegan Township Highway Department in 1973 and as a laborer at North Short Sanitary District from 1975 until 1992, according to the complaint. ----Lois M. Lane of Missouri claims she developed mesothelioma after her secondary exposure to asbestos fibers through her ex-husband, who worked as a cook in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955; as a laborer at Continental Can from 1955 until 1961; as a carpenter at Fruin-Colnon in 1961; as a laborer at Mitchell's Auto Salvage from 1961 until 1962; and as a laborer at Sander's Auto Salvage from 1962 until 1982. --Patrick and Anna McGrath of Illinois claim Patrick McGrath developed mesothelioma after his work as a painter, laborer and computer consultant from 1969 until now. --Paul Myers of North Carolina, a laborer, welder and assembly and construction worker from 1959 until 1998 at various locations throughout Illinois, Ohio and Delaware, claims mesothelioma. --Richard L. Neathammer of Alabama claims his recently deceased father, Richard U. Neathammer, developed mesothelioma after his work as a fireman, sales associate, manager and courier at various locations throughout Illinois and Missouri from 1947 until 1992.
