Two women say an unknown employee of C. Grantham Company hit the vehicle in which they were riding, causing them to sustain severe and permanent injuries.
Lillie D. Turner and Jettie Cotton filed a lawsuit July 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against C. Grantham Company and the unknown driver.
Turner and Cotton claim Turner was driving on Eighth Street in East St. Louis on July 26, 2007, when an employee of C. Grantham Company hit the vehicle. During the collision, Cotton was riding in the vehicle as a passenger.
Because of the accident, Turner sustained severe and permanent injuries to her back, neck and shoulder, according to the complaint. In addition, various parts of her vehicle were destroyed and the vehicle's value was depreciated, the suit states.
Cotton sustained injuries to her leg and hip, the complaint says.
Both plaintiffs were hindered from attending to their normal activities, suffered great pain and anguish and incurred medical expenses, the suit states.
They blame C. Grantham Company's driver for driving too fast, for failing to decrease speed, for failing to keep the vehicle under control, for failing to observe the vehicle Turner was operating, for failing to keep a proper lookout for traffic on the road and for failing to apply brakes.
In the five-count suit, the plaintiffs are seeking a judgment in excess of $200,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
