A woman says China Star restaurant, Alton Shopping Center and its owner were responsible for an unnatural accumulation of ice on which she claims she slipped and fell.
Beverly Moore sued the restaurant, shopping center and its owner, Edith L. Wolff, on March 13 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Moore says she had driven to China Star's parking lot to pick up a purchase at the restaurant on Feb. 2, 2008.
As Moore was walking around her vehicle, she slipped and fell on an unnatural accumulation of ice, the complaint says.
Because of the incident, Moore claims she experienced pain and suffering, disability, loss of a normal life, incurred medical expenses and lost wages.
Moore blamed Wolff, Alton Shopping Center and China Starr for having snow piled in such a manner that it caused an unreasonable risk of harm to patrons, for knowing of the risks, for expecting people on their property to not discover the risks, for failing to warn customers of the dangers and for failing to have the parking lot cleared of snow in such a way that there would be no unnatural drainage.
In the two-count suit, Moore is seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.
