A woman claims she incurred serious injuries, including four skull fractures, after an intoxicated man struck her while she was riding on her motorcycle.
Jacqueline A. Dresch was driving her 2000 Harley Davidson south on North Main Street at its intersection with Lincoln Street in Edwardsville when Lyle Polus, who was driving his 1986 Chevrolet Blazer north, attempted to make a left-hand turn at the intersection directly in front of Dresch's motorcycle, according to the complaint filed Feb. 2 in Madison County Circuit Court.
The incident, which occurred on Sept. 19, caused a serious collision, the suit states.
Polus obtained his liquor from an unknown person who had been sold the liquor at Schnuck Markets in Edwardsville, Dresch alleges.
In addition to her four skull fractures, Dresch claims she suffered hearing loss, a compound fracture in her right arm and injuries to her low back, right eye, right breast and right elbow.
She also suffered great pain, mental anguish, disability and loss of a normal life and incurred medical expenses in excess of $250,000, according to the complaint.
Polus was negligent by driving too fast, by failing to keep his vehicle under control, by failing to keep a proper lookout, by driving without safe and adequate brakes and by driving while under the influence of alcohol, the suit states.
Also named as a defendant in the suit is Schnuck Markets through the Dram Shop Act.
In the two-count suit, Dresch is seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.
