Collision on Illinois Street subject of suit

A Belleville man has filed suit against another Belleville man, alleging he was severely injured after a collision.

Doug E. Gerold was driving north on South Illinois Route in Belleville on Nov. 3, 2006, when Todd Barham, who was turning left out of a parking lot onto South Illinois, collided with him, according to the complaint filed Oct. 31 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

In addition to his injuries, Gerold claims he became seriously and permanently diminished, impaired and made painful and suffered grievous pain and mental anguish because of the accident.

He also became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled, has incurred medical expenses and has lost benefits and wages, according to the complaint.

Barham was negligent because he failed to yield the right-of-way, failed to keep a proper lookout for traffic, failed to stop, swerve or signal to avoid a collision, drove carelessly and drove in violation of an Illinois statute, the suit states.

Gerold is seeking a sum in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

He is represented by Mathis, Marifian, Richter and Grandy.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 08-L-558.
