Ann Knef Nov. 4, 2008, 3:26pm

With all precincts reporting in the race for the 112th state house district, State Rep. Jay Hoffman has defeated Dwight Kay 30,327 to 22,852 votes in Madison and St. Clair counties.

Hoffman, a Democrat, was able to shake off Republican Kay's challenge in an expensive race.

The candidates have raised more than $750,000 this year for a job that pays less than $70,000 annually

Hoffman, of Collinsville, chairs the House Transportation Committee, and he serves on the House Judiciary Committee.

A lot of Hoffman's contributions came from unions and state contractors.

Kay, vice president of Cassens Transport in Edwardsville, received large contributions from business organizations. He is from Glen Carbon.
