An Illinois woman has filed suit against a Missouri man and a trucking company, claiming she was severely injured after a rear-end collision.
Beverly Conwell was driving her 2001 Mercury Villager east on Interstate 55/70 on Nov. 7, 2006, in Canteen when Anthony Wheat hit the rear of another vehicle with the 2004 Frist tractor-trailer he was driving in the same direction, according to the complaint filed Oct. 22 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
"The defendant failed to recognize the traffic was stopped and rear-ended a vehicle driven by Melvin Foster, cause the Foster vehicle to strike other vehicles and thereby causing a chain reaction that ultimately resulted in Beverly Cornwell's vehicle being struck from behind," the suit states.
Wheat was working for P.A.M. Transport at the time of the accident, according to the complaint.
Conwell claims she sustained temporary and permanent injuries because of the accident and has incurred medical expenses.
Foster was negligent because he failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to exercise proper control over the vehicle, failed to brake and failed to drive in a single lane, the suit states.
In the two-count suit, Conwell is seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.
