Granite City couple sues Alhambra man over car accident

A Granite City man and woman have filed suit against an Alhambra man, claiming they were injured after he rear-ended the vehicle in which they were riding.

Courtney Bosworth and Steve Dickey claim they were traveling at the intersection of Highway 111 and State Route 162 in Pontoon Beach on May 21, 2007, when Josh Jenkins struck the rear of their vehicle, according to the complaint filed Oct. 20 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of the accident, Bosworth suffered a severe strain to her cervical spine, a severe strain to her lumbar spine, contusions to her left hip and contusions to her right pinky finger, the suit states.

Dickey, who was driving the vehicle, claims he suffered a severe strain to his cervical spine, cervical radiculopathy, bulging discs and syncope. In addition, he claims he suffered lost wages.

Both Dickey and Bosworth paid substantial amounts for medical costs and were disabled from their injuries, according to the complaint.

They also both suffered pain and incurred emotional injury, the suit states.

They claim Jenkins was negligent because he failed to obey the posted speed limits, failed to stop at the stop-light, failed to slow as he approached the intersection, failed to keep a proper look-out and failed to swerve to avoid striking other vehicles in the road.

In the four-count suit, Bosworth and Dickey are seeking unspecified damages, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Eric W. Evans and Dawn Kamadulski O'Leary of Roth Evans in Granite City will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 08-L-980.
