Rear-end collision in Fairmont City subject of suit

A Fairmont City woman has filed suit against a Collinsville man, claiming she was injured after he rear-ended her.

Angela Paton was driving north on Illinois State Route 157 near its intersection with East Port Plaza in Collinsville on Jan. 21, 2007, when Manuel Diaz hit her vehicle from behind, according to a complaint filed Oct. 15 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of the accident, Paton's cervical spine, lumbar spine and chest were bruised, contused, lacerated, cut, torn, swollen, aggravated, ruptured, mashed, wrenched, narrowed, compressed, subluxed, abraded, dislocated, strained sprained and rendered stiff, sore and painful, the suit states.

Paton claims she suffered great physical pain and that her body is impaired and diminished.

She has become responsible for substantial medical costs, the suit states.

Paton claims Diaz was negligent because he drove too fast for the circumstances, failed to exercise ordinary care and failed to give any sound or signal warning of his approach.

She is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

She is represented by Earl Hubbs of Brown & Crouppen in St. Louis.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 08-L-964.
