Lowe's sued over slippery substance at Alton store

Lowe's

Frances E. Smith is suing Lowe's Home Centers claiming she slipped and fell on a slippery substance five months ago at an Alton store.

In a suit filed Aug. 25 in Madison County Circuit Court, Smith claims Lowe's is negligent for, among other things, permitting a slippery substance to accumulate on a floor in an area open to customers.

Seeking in excess of $100,000 in damages, Smith claims she sustained serious, permanent, painful and disabling injuries, requiring medical care, past and future, "at substantial cost."

"The defendant should have anticipated that persons on the premises would not discover or realize the danger, or would otherwise fail to protect themselves against it," the complaint states.

Smith is represented by Timothy F. Campbell of Campbell & McGrady of Godfrey.
