Movie goer trips on way to Spiderman III, suit says

Cynthia Halpern is suing Kerasotes Showplace Theatres, claiming she injured herself after tripping on a step that was not visible.

Halpern was visiting Showplace 12, a theater owned by Kerasotes, to watch "Spiderman III" when the alleged incident occurred on May 12, 2007, according to the complaint.

"Plaintiff was walking in the theater, when she was caused to, and did trip and fall with great force and violence on a step that was not visible, thereby greatly injuring herself as alleged herein," the suit states.

As a result of the fall, Halpern claims she injured her right knee, right hip, left shoulder, left hand and other areas of her body.

Halpern said she had to undergo surgery on her right knee, has suffered and will continue to suffer great physical pain and mental anguish, has and will be unable to perform her usual activities, has endured disability and loss of a normal life, suffered disfigurement, and has been and will continue to be obligated to pay medical expenses because of her injuries, the suit states.

She is seeking $50,000, plus the costs of the suit, which was filed Aug. 22.

Halpern is represented by Michael Glisson of Williamson, Webster, Falb and Glisson in Alton.
