Dog owner sued for Shar Pei-motorcycle collision

A Shar Pei and his owner are being blamed for a couple's serious injuries when the dog ran in front of a motorcycle two years ago in Sugar Loaf.

Caralynn and Joseph Ditondo of New York filed suit against Chris Suljak in St. Clair County Circuit Court on Aug. 6 over an incident that took place in front of Suljak's residence at 561 McBride Ave.

The Ditondos claim that the defendant knew the dog had on previous occasions run into the street to chase motorcycles or other vehicles.

"Defendant knew and/or should have know that said dog had a propensity to run into the street after motor vehicles such as the Plaintiffs' motorcycle," the complaint states.

Caralynn Ditondo claims she suffered injuries to her head, face, shoulders, arms, buttocks, knees and internal organs when the collision took place Aug. 20, 2006.

She claims she has incurred $26,000 in medical expenses so far and expects more treatment in the future. She seeks in excess of $50,000 in damages.

Joseph Ditondo, who claims he suffered scarring and abrasions to his right arm, legs and left shoulder, is seeking no more than $50,000.

They are represented by David Grebel of Onder, Shelton, O'Leary & Peterson of St. Louis.
