Casino Queen customer injured while cashing in files personal injury suit

Casino Queen customer Melvin Burton is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages after he slipped and fell on water at 1 a.m. on June 1 while waiting to cash in his receipts.

Burton claims that an employee of the East St. Louis casino, while walking in the same area as him, "negligently slipped and fell and while doing so, negligently used the plaintiff's arm and shoulder to block her fall, causing the plaintiff to be violently thrown to the floor and causing injury...," states the complaint filed June 26 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Burton, represented by John H. Hustava of Collinsville, alleges the East St. Louis casino is negligent for knowingly allowing water to remain on the floor.

"That the defendant and its employees had a duty to use reasonable care in its dealings with the public so as to avoid the infliction of injury or distress on their customers and the public at large," the complaint states.

Burton also claims the casino failed to install safety signs.

He claims injuries to his right shoulder and low back.
