John Scruggs claims he was struck by falling boxes at the St. Clair County Jail two years ago in a personal injury suit filed against business agents of the jail.
Scruggs claims Source Logistics Inc. of Russellville, Ark., Columbus Cold Storage of Columbus, Ohio and Aramark Food Service of Chicago failed to ensure the stability of a pallet it had packed and delivered.
According to the suit filed Feb. 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, numerous boxes fell from the pallet onto his head, neck, back and shoulder on Feb. 21, 2006, at the jail.
Represented by Edward A. Gilkerson of St. Louis, Scruggs is seeking in excess of $150,000 in damages for serious injury and severe pain. He claims he has incurred medical bills and wage loss.
The complaint does not indicate whether Scruggs is an employee of the jail. At press time, Gilkerson had not returned a phone call to clarify the matter.
